Dartmouth College McLane & Fahey Residence Halls Site/Civil Design
Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH | Dartmouth College
This project received a LEED Gold Rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
This project involved the expansion of Dartmouth College's McLane Hall and Fahey Hall, collectively known as Tuck Mall Residence Hall, to provide the campus with a total 162 beds. McFarland Johnson provided site/civil engineering services for this project, involving preparation of a site plan for these residence halls. Site/civil engineering tasks included the design of a small parking lot, sidewalks, drainage system components, water and sewer services, and utilities. An existing roadway and sidewalks were realigned to accommodate the preferred building location along Tuck Drive. An extension of the existing municipal sewer was also completed as part of the civil engineering tasks. Stormwater design included infiltration and treatment of site drainage developed during the two-year storm event. A major project goal was to achieve a LEED rating of at least Silver, which was the design basis for all project components. From a civil engineering perspective, the LEED goal directed the siting of the building, landscape elements, and the siting of geothermal wells, as well as the stormwater management project design components.
