This project involved a program report and design of a new 296 bed, 237,000 square foot nursing home. MJ provided fire protection, mechanical, electrical, communications, plumbing, site/civil and structural design services. The heating and air conditioning is provided by a geothermal heat pump system that utilizes the energy of the earth instead of fossil fuels. Energy recovery air-handling units provide the ventilation for the building.

The electrical service to the facility is provided from a 2,500kVA 13800/480V transformer. Two 900KW generators provide power to the life safety and both manual and automatic branches of the emergency power distribution. The light fixtures and the finishes of the public and patient spaces are of residential scale and appearance to make the home more appealing. In addition, the new facility has its own kitchen and laundry. Extensive plumbing systems were being designed including medical gases, medical vacuum, kitchen and laundry plumbing systems. Communication systems designs included data, telephone, cable TV, CCTV, door access, nurse call and paging systems. A main server and PBX room was located on the first floor, and individual data rooms with patch panels were placed on each of the upper floors.

In addition, MJ completed an analysis of multiple parking layout alternatives. Parking counts were completed to establish visitor demand, staff demand, nursing demand and patient visitor demand. The analysis considered diurnal as well as weekday demand to establish optimum parking requirements for the overall project and for each use. This initial analysis provided insight and direction with regard to developing parking lot layout alternatives and establishing a preferred alternative. Based upon the results of the parking analysis, MJ also completed a traffic impact statement used in support of permitting for a Driveway Access Permit through the NH Department of Transportation.
